SPEAKER IN MENOMONIE APRIL 7TH, 2003:

An Introduction to Alternative Energy in Residential Houses

Jim Erdman has been working with alternative energy for a long time: for 12 years, he did not pay one electricity bill.  He made all the electricity he needed on his own land.   Utilizing a wind generator he and his family erected and the power of sunlight, Jim has enjoyed the technology of alternative energy.  Jim will be sharing his experience with UW Stout GreenSense and anyone interested from the public on April 7th in Ballroom B of the Memorial Student Center in Menomonie, Wisconsin.
Jim will be showing slides of his own houses, including his active solar panels and wind generator.  Creating your own energy can be complicated, but Jim will explain how anyone can use alternative energy and energy saving techniques in their own home.  He can tell you about some of the pitfalls he has experienced, and how to avoid them.
GreenSense, Stout's Ecology Club, will be hosting Jim along with the Red Cedar Peace Initiative.  GreenSense meets every Monday at 6 p.m. in the Badger Room of the Student Center to discus and plan environmental awareness on campus.  Their website can be found at http://greensense.uwstout.edu, and they can be contacted at greensense@uwstout.edu.
Parking for this event is free and available in the lot by the Applied Arts building (from Broadway, turn onto 10th Avenue towards campus, then take the second right into the parking lot).   Ballroom B is on the top level of the Student Center.
